THRIVE is powered by a team of 225 weekly volunteers who provide all of our services. In 2023, they clocked 17,000 hours. Volunteers are truly the backbone or our organization. Current Volunteer Needs
SPANISH SPEAKING VOLUNTEERS
Needed to assist in the Food Pantry, for Admin Support, and to become Financial Coaches!
FINANCIAL COACHES
To become a THRIVE financial coach, you must take the 20-hour Master Financial Educator Volunteer training through the Virginia Cooperative Extension office. If you are interested in learning more, please fill out a volunteer application, and we will schedule you to shadow a current financial coaching session before class enrollment.
RESOURCE CONCIERGE
We are looking for volunteers who would answer questions and help connect families with additional resources. Training would be provided. If you are interested in this, please contact Barbara, barbara@thrivepeninsula.org
COOKING DEMONSTRATION
Volunteers will promote healthy eating habits by leading cooking demonstrations for Market clients during We Cook Wednesdays. This role aims to educate clients on how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals using the ingredients available at the Market, with a focus on fresh produce and other staple items. Training will be provided by the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
BOX TRUCK DRIVER
Drivers are needed to operate our box truck to pick up and deliver food. Experience driving a box truck and operating a pallet jack is preferred but not required. Must have a clean driving history.
DRIVER SUBSTITUTE
Substitutes are needed to pick up from grocery stores on designated days in the morning. Truck, SUV, or minivan recommended. Must be comfortable lifting 25-50 pounds.
