Nope! We’re not referring to “The Wizard of Oz” and the legendary chant of Dorothy, Scarecrow and Tin Man before encountering the Cowardly Lion in the dark forest. We’re listening to the joyful chants from children visiting THRIVE Peninsula when they receive one of the 600 stuffed bears gifted by Northside Christian Church (NCC) Vacation Bible School students! Stuffed with children’s hand-written notes such as, “I am praying for you,” these cuddly gifts come “bearing” love and care for all who receive them—not to mention how much these fuzzy friends have brightened up the THRIVE Outreach Center!
Fulfilling their summer’ goal of “‘Moving for God’ across the community and the world,” VBS students went above and beyond sharing these beary joyful, snuggly toys.
During NCC’s VBS week, these mission-in-motion youth collected and donated 823 pounds of food (inventoried in at $1,415.56) to help THRIVE feed the hungry in our neighborhoods! Trading hours of time/work to “earn” scholarships from the church, high school students moving food in were awarded the opportunity to attend the “MOVE” Christian Convention in Tennessee. Serving some 27,000 students per summer, multiple 5-day MOVE events held all over the country are “designed to amplify the call of Christ on students’ lives to become kingdom workers.” Catching the Christ-vision at the camp, students are called to move beyond the camp event by using their talents, abilities, influence and even their future careers to serve others in the world.
Thanks to Director of Children’s Ministry Debbie Johnson, fellow leaders and the Northside KIDS Ministry for their VBS efforts of moving in our community and the world in a magnanimous way!
